dougu-baku
dougu-baku, the japanese term for "tool" or "instrument," is a stationary box inspired by the traditional toolkit, designed for university students interested in ceramics. created using laser cutting techniques, this prototype aims to offer a practical solution for storing and organising pottery tools while reflecting on the creative process.
through an iterative design approach, we tested and refined prototypes made from cardboard and foam board. the final design features hand-drawn icons representing the four stages of the pottery process, along with a short poem inspired by users' stories and insights into their meditative making process. this poem reframes tidying and organising as integral to the creative journey, reinforcing the idea that maintaining one's tools and workspace is a key part of mastering the craft.

we make—
we make choices
make our messes; little and grand
deal with our stresses
we use our muddy hands
we work hard; we earn rewards
but when we honor our tools
and tidy our mind
we master our own wheel.
